About My Work
Everyone deserves the opportunity to feel accepted and supported for who they are, and where they are, right here and now, so that they can begin to move towards who they want to be and where they want to go. In order to do this, I bring consistent warmth and compassion, collaboration, and humor when needed. Some people show up for therapy with topics to discuss, challenges to explore, and new strategies to learn. Other times, people arrive unsure where to begin or where they want to go. Some clients enter my office having never had therapy before, unsure what to expect, while others meet with me after years (or even decades) of therapy, feeling like they just haven’t made the progress they were hoping to, despite all of their efforts. No matter the case, I work together with my clients to creating a plan and a pace that feels comfortable.
I have worked in a variety of settings throughout my career including In Home Therapy, therapeutic schools, and in community mental health, most notably, at The Trauma Center under the medical direction of Bessel van der Kolk MD, a leading pioneer in the world of trauma and attachment. In the recent years, we have furthered our understanding of trauma’s pervasive impact on the nervous system. Ongoing research on the brain shows that trauma therapy must go beyond talking about the trauma and creating insight. In order to effect lasting change, we must rewire the brain by creating and strengthening new neural pathways. In my work, this is done through integrating Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), Ego State Therapy, and Sensorimotor Psychotherapy (SP), though each situation is tailored specifically to client’s individual needs.
